Hal Rodriguez

Jazz, Electric Guitar

Hal Rodriguez is a versatile musician with many years of experience teaching children, teenagers, and adults how to play acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, and ukulele. He has studied with Juno nominated jazz guitarist Michael Occhipinti at the Royal Conservatory of Music, written for Canadian Musician Magazine for the last ten years, and transcribed music for premier guitarists such as Oz Noy. Hal is a friendly and enthusiastic teacher whose approach to teaching involves defining each student’s unique goals, evaluating their current ability, and prescribing the necessary lessons and exercises for improving. He places a special emphasis on preparing students to play in bands as he believes it’s the fastest way to improve and stay inspired.

Jesse began studying violin with Sheila nearly 5 years ago, and has made steady progress from day 1. Sheila is flexible with her teaching style and is positive, patient and understanding. She challenges him, and always provides good guidance and advice. Jesse greatly appreciates that she asks him for his opinion about both his playing and repertoire, helping him develop his ear, self-confidence, and engagement in his learning. The school’s twice-yearly recitals provide us with the opportunity to perform together (with me accompanying him) – a special experience for us both.
